It’s the summer, summer, summertime and we have a new lineup of Legends In Concert in town at Bally’s Atlantic City.
We just got back from a sneak peak of the last dress rehearsal and we still feel all excited and tingly thinking about it. (We wonder if the tingly part is Justin Timberlake’s doing…or Marilyn Monroe’s…hmm.)
Anyway, the summer lineup featuring Bobby Darin, Adele, Marilyn Monroe, Justin Timberlake and Whitney Houston will run starting tomorrow, May 25th through July 11th at The Legends Theater at Bally’s AC.
Bring your mamas, papas and your kiddies cause this cast features dreamboats and incredible performers of all eras and moments in time.
Bobby Darin swooped in and captivated us from the get-go, giving us the number one-song of 1959 “Mack The Knife”. And dude was smooth. He must have got allll the girls back then. He got a couple in our audience too. Using this pick-up line. “I’m gonna take you back to the high school dance…then the soda shop.” (Aww factor).
He proceeded to effortlessly glide across the stage throughout the duration of his set. He was the ultimate gentleman. Until of course “Splish Splash” boomed through the speakers and the classic American bandstand twist came back to life and back into style within seconds of him twisting those hips.
Before we knew it the stage went black and all of a sudden we were at the end 2012 Grammy Awards…or something because a big, familiar voice in a black dress with incredible eye makeup grabbed a hold of us. Spotlight. Bam! It was Adele. And we were “Rolling In The Deep”.
Somehow we forgot she was British but she reminded us when she started speaking. She told us that she almost wet herself backstage because she saw Justin Timberlake. (Us too, honey).
She managed to sneak in all of our favorites throughout her performance including “Set Fire To The Rain”, “Rumor Has It”, and “Someone Like You”. It was like we were at our own personal Adele concert.
Marilyn Monroe whooshed in next, all bedazzled out in long, flowing diamonds. Naturally, this was the perfect time to give us a little “Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend”. Let us tell you, that breathy, sexy voice was like candy to our ears.
She even ventured out into the audience at one point during “I Wanna Be Loved By You” to flirt with the gents. One lucky fella even got her on his lap at the end of the number. Then she told him “It’s a good thing you moved your hands…”. We LOL’d.
From sex kittens to sex symbols, Justin Timberlake was up next and had every woman drooling within .5 seconds of his first ditty, “Like I Love You.” We’re not sure if it was the solid voice and hot dance moves or the diamond earrings, the multiple pairs of Adidas sneakers, the hand pulse and slight pelvic thrusts that makes someone a perfect boyband/ex-boyband member that worked everyone up into a tizzy. We are guessing probably a combination of the two.
He even took us back to the *NSYNC days with a little “Gone” and “Bye Bye Bye”. Our favorite part was when he shouted out to the “scorned lovers” before breaking into “What Goes Around” cause, that’s us…right? Call us, JT.
Then something amazing happened. (Yes, again). The opening notes of “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” played and a powerhouse voice started singing. Whitney Houston was back. That made us smile and maybe, perhaps, even a little teary. Her falsetto and vocal nuances were so on-point. (She also had on this amazeballs pair of sparkly boots).
We heard a number of her hits (“So Emotional”, “I’m Every Woman”, “My Love Is Your Love”, etc.) and some even acapella including the beginning of her last song, “I Will Always Love You” which no doubt left everyone feeling very bittersweet, but like we said before, grateful that we are able to see her again.
And a little FYI for all you fans of The King, Elvis Presley joins the cast on June 5th.
See this great group of Legends at Bally’s Tuesday through Friday and Sundays at 8 p.m (with an additional Wednesday matinee at 3 p.m.) and Saturdays at 7:30 and 10 p.m. Click here for tix.
