Funny man Charlie Murphy is coming to House of Blues at Showboat Atlantic City on Friday. Good thing, cause we need a laugh, or two…or…a lot.
He actually made us laugh already because he let us ask him 8 totally probing interview questions.
Here is your Ready, Set, Go! with Charlie Murphy:
TAC: Welcome home! What do you like about living in Jersey? It gets a bad rap, but it’s not really that bad, right?!
Charlie Murphy: Jersey’s not bad at all. Depends on what part you live in, just like anywhere else. Where I live, its great. I’m 20 minutes from NYC, My kids have a big yard to play in and I have access to some of the best restaurants on the planet, world-class entertainment, mountains and the ocean.
TAC: See, haters. What can fans expect from your show at HOB on June 8th?
Charlie Murphy: Expect to laugh. You get on an airplane and you expect to fly. You go to a comedy show, you should expect to laugh. There’s a lot of great talent on The Acid Trip tour and we’re going to give you something to remember and laugh about long after you leave.
TAC: You’ve worked with such big names over the years – Denzel Washington, Sammy Davis Jr., and Jamie Foxx just to name a few. What has been your favorite collaboration and why?
Charlie Murphy: Richard Pryor and Red Foxx. Being on the set with them was not only an enriching experience to see them work but to sit in a trailer with them and have that wisdom and experience passed down from 2 of the masters was incredible.
TAC: Is there anyone you haven’t worked with yet that’s on your list?
Charlie Murphy: JLo. We all know why.
TAC: Heh. If you had to choose between a stand up, acting, or screenwriting/producing career which would you choose and why?
Charlie Murphy: That’s a tough one. They are all creative acts and endeavors. For me, creativity feeds creativity. I’m blessed to get paid to be creative in any and all regards. But If I HAD to choose, stand up. It allows me to use everything that I have in my arsenal. I write my own jokes, I act out my own stories on stage and I am in fact the producer of my stand up show. I have total control over the product and how it turns out.
TAC: Where do you draw your best material from? Does your regular thought process come in the form of jokes?
Charlie Murphy: Life, CNN, Animal Planet, The History Channel, etc. I’m fascinated with human and animal behavior. I don’t think in punchlines, rather in anecdotes and I think that is reflected in my comedy style.
TAC: What is something about you that may surprise us?
Charlie Murphy: Before Chappelle’s Show took off, I was planning to open up a Karate Dojo.
TAC: You make us laugh. Who and what makes you laugh?
Charlie Murphy: I have a strange sense of humor. I laugh at things other people may think are horrid but it’s not malicious. It’s how I process and then I am able to convey the stranger aspects of life in my show.
Get your tix here to get the giggles! Show starts at 9 p.m.
