DJ Webstar Keeps First Love Going At Showboat Atlantic City’s First Fridays At Foundation Room

The Foundation Room at Showboat Atlantic City is gearing up for another famous First Friday again this week. Can you believe it’s just about May already? Dang! Good for ya’ll though, because that means it’s time for another party!

If you’ve ever experienced a First Friday before, it’s always a happenin’ time with an awesome crowd. One of the reasons for this is electric vibe is thanks to resident DJ, DJ Webstar.

DJ Webstar is a celebrity in his own right and not only because his spinning skills are off the hook, but because he is also a known rapper and producer. In fact, his famous single, “Chicken Noodle Soup”, blew up YouTube in 2006 and quickly led to a major label deal. “Chicken Noodle Soup” was soon part of a 13-track album called Webstar Presents: Caught In The Web. Uptown Harlem followed in 2008 and a collaborative album with Jim Jones (you know, Chrissy & Mr. Jones, Jim Jones), The Rooftop, in 2009.

Despite all of this fame and fandom, DJ Webstar still finds the time to get back to his first love of DJing. We talked with him about this, his third solo album in the works, First Fridays and more! Check it out, below.

DJ Webstar

TAC: Most people know you from your famous single, “Chicken Noodle Soup” that became an Internet sensation. What’s the story about the creation of this song?

DJ Webstar: The song blew up unexpectedly. I use to do teen party’s in Harlem NYC, that attracted thousands of kids. I was pretty much just doing music for my followers , but the song hit YouTube a took on a life of its own.

TAC: Why do you think people responded so well to “Chicken Noodle Soup”?

DJ Webstar: I think people responded so well because it was fun, clean, and real. With all the problems in the world today people wanna have a good time whenever they can.

TAC: How has your life changed since that song blew up?

DJ Webstar: Yea my life has changed a lot since then.  Money changes the way you live and the things you do, but I’ve remained humble and remain positive. Women treat you a little better as well (laughs).

TAC: You’ve released three albums since then, the last being in 2009. Can we expect another one soon?

DJ Webstar: I’m currently working on my third studio album. We can expect it hopefully Sept 2013. Album features  Diddy,  Nicki Minaj, DJ Pauly D,  Wyclef , Jim Jones and Wale just to name a few.

TAC: So cool! Pulling out all the stops! How do you balance spinning at clubs and your music and producing career?

DJ Webstar: DJing actually keeps a good balance with my other ventures. You can keep in tune with the people, you can know whats hot and what’s not. DJing is my first love..

TAC: What do you like best about spinning at First Fridays every month at Foundation Room at Showboat Atlantic City?

DJ Webstar: The best thing about First Fridays is the energy. People come dressed really nice and ready to party. Nothing better than a great good looking crowd who just wants to party. Good music, good people, and good fashion equals great energy and an amazing party.

TAC: Finish the sentence…The one song that ALWAYS gets the First Fridays crowd dancing is…

DJ Webstar: The one song that always gets First Fridays crowd going is poison By Bel Biv Devoe.

(Excuse us, we need a dance break for this one…

Never trust a big butt and a smile, ya’ll)

TAC: What’s something that you get from spinning live that you can’t when you’re in the studio and vice versa?

DJ Webstar: The one thing you can get from spinning live that you can’t get in the studio is the energy the people give you.   Being able to motivate the crowd. That feeling is unexplainable.

TAC: One of your mentors is Diddy. What was the best piece of advice he has ever given to you and how did you form such a great relationship with him?

DJ Webstar: Diddy was actually the one who talked me back in to DJing again I stopped for a while he told me don’t cheat my self.  He said if I have the talent to do something, then do it and be the best at it. Get money from everywhere you can, stay positive, negative never wins. He’s the greatest, so when he talks, I listen.

TAC: Absolutely! Where do you hope to be in 10 years?

DJ Webstar: In 10 years, we’ll be doing the 10 year anniversary of First Friday! I don’t think that far really, but God willing, I’ll still be successfully DJing and making good music . Just with a lot more money (laughs).

Sounds good to us! And we totally hope to be celebrating the 10 year anniversary of First Friday with you! In the meantime though, check out DJ Webstar at First Friday THIS Friday at Foundation Room at Showboat. Doors open at 10!

An Inside Look At The New SPIDER-MAN Video Slot Coming Soon To Caesars Entertainment Atlantic City Properties

This doesn’t happen often, but we have no words. Take a look at the new dual-array Spider-Man video slot game coming soon to Caesars Atlantic City, Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City, Showboat Atlantic City and Bally’s Atlantic City.

Is this not amazing looking? The game is complete with six “Spider Sense Features”: Pumpkin Bomb (all pumpkin symbols are turned into WILD symbols), Peter Parker WILD (all Peter Parker symbols are turned into WILD symbols), Super Multiplier (The choice is yours here: Spin the wheel to receive multipliers up to 30x or try your luck at the Goblin Battle Bonus that we will discuss in a bit), Super Scatter (Peter Parker, Mary Jane OR Green Goblin symbols will pay scatter) or WILD Transfer (WILD symbols on the first array will go to the second and vice versa).

And of course the bonus battle = The Goblin Battle. If the Green Goblin flies onto the screen and throws a pumpkin bomb, it’s on! If a bomb strikes the Green Goblin, Spider-Man gets a point and the same goes for the opposite scenario. If Spider-Man racks up the most points, you get two times your bonus win!

And all of this comes to life so much more as you soar along the journey in the Sensory Immersion 2.0 chair!

The game is slated to hit Harrah’s Resort next week and Caesars, Showboat and Bally’s the following week.  We caught up with game producer Steve Slotwinski (we know, the last name couldn’t be any more perfect) from WMS Gaming to get some “behind the scenes” info. It’s safe to say that Steve pretty much knows all three Spider-Man movies by heart. He admitted to us that he is now able to watch the trilogy in a 40 minute span. That takes skill, people! Check out the rest, below.

Spider-Man video slot

TAC: What was your favorite part of the process while creating this game?

Steve Slotwinski: For this one, we have a new product. We have a sensory immersion 2.0 chair that we used for the Spider-Man game. It’s a motion chair. Probably the best time making this game was finding clips that used the most motion and working to make that chair move the way that we wanted it to for those clips. A lot of our time was reviewing the movies; trying to find as many clips of Spider-Man doing some type of action: fighting or swinging or jumping from building to building and trying to incorporate that into a movement into a chair to literally make this game as action packed as possible. So we went through this entire process and found the clips that we wanted and we started adding motion to this chair through those clips. At first, we were throwing people out of the chair. I thought it was great, but we eventually had to tone it down from there. I set my bar high. I wanted to find that high point. It’s an action movie so you should have some action when you play this game. Nothing’s better than playing the game and having that interactive part with the player to completely immerse them into the game.

TAC: And after the research was finished, what were the steps of bringing it all together & bringing this game to fruition?

Steve Slotwinski: It’s pretty close to making a movie. We go through multiple story board options of what we want to happen; essentially story boarding base games and all of the bonus games and features. And when we have a good idea of what we want to do, we throw some math behind it to see what’s actually feasible and if it will actually be a fun game. Then from there, we take those story boards and give them to the artists. All of our artists are incredibly talented people and highly educated, and they make the game how they think it would look the best. We let them run with it for a little bit and from there we just build until we have something that is absolutely fantastic. That’s probably the most condensed version of what we do from start to finish.

TAC: How did you bring the popular characters from the movie into the game?

Steve Slotwinski: We have Toby Maguire, we have James Franco, Kirsten Dunst and William Dafoe. We wanted to incorporate the characters as much as possible. We tried to take whatever we could from the video clips. We took the clips that showcased them the best and threw them into the game and tried to find other bonuses or other types of wins or anything we could that accentuates them. It’s those types of little details that we try to bring into each game to make you feel like you’re actually playing Spider-Man. We don’t want everything to revolve around one character; we want it to revolve around the movie.

TAC: What about this game do you think will resonate with the players at Caesars Entertainment Atlantic City properties?

Steve Slotwinski: It’s gonna be a fun game to play. We’ve had people come here and test out the game and people who have played it before it’s gone to casino and they all sat down, they played a few games and got to a bonus round and got up and said that they didn’t even feel like they were playing a slot machine. They had so much fun playing it that it was almost like a completely different experience as opposed to a regular gambling experience. They were incredibly entertained and they loved that. They were willing to put more money in just to get to the other bonuses so that they could ride the ride and have fun with Spider-Man. That was probably one of the best pieces of feedback that we received so far. It opens up all these new doors. We’re not just making a slot machine anymore or a gaming device. Now we’re making a huge piece of entertainment that people love to play just because it’s that entertaining. I’m hoping to see lines of people waiting to play this game!

TAC: How was producing this game different than most of the other games you’ve worked on (like Wizard Of Oz: Journey To Oz, Price Is Right Plinko Jackpots and Colossal Reels Zodiac Sisters & Tritan’s Gold)?

Steve Slotwinski: This was my first time working with the sensory chair and it’s actually our second game using that chair. This is coming on the heels of Aladdin which was a beautiful ride. Having that license on this product literally allowed me to take that chair to the next level and use it as much as I possibly can.

There you have it, folks! Be on the look out for the Spider-Man video slot at Caesars Entertainment Atlantic City casinos soon! Be sure to check back and tell us what you think!

Robert Reynolds And The Mavericks Ready To Build Memories Tomorrow Night At House Of Blues Atlantic City

The Mavericks are back after an eight year hiatus and their newest album, In Time, released in February, has been receiving rave reviews. American Songwriter describes it as “as powerful and timeless as anything they have done” and the LA Times states that In Time “embodies the very best of the melting pot experience that’s the very best of the American character.” That’s right. Because The Mavericks are and have always been true to their name. You could never peg them in one hole or another.

While their sound as a whole embodies country, there’s also some smooth latin in there; some pop, some Tex Mex and more. In Time is the perfect next step to their previous six albums (like From Hell To Paradise and What A Crying Shame) even with the eight year time gap.

When all is said and done, it may seem as if the more things change, the more they remain the same because the band is back out at it on the road again for a huge international tour and are stopping here at House Of Blues Atlantic City TOMORROW at Showboat. We caught up with original member Robert Reynolds yesterday for a bit. See what he has to say about this reunion and more, below!

The Mavericks

TAC: We love that you guys are a country-esque band from Miami! And you started off your career in a very different direction (punk alternative). What was the process like of finding the sound that works for you?

Robert Reynolds: There’s nothing like time. Time is a great teacher. If you have the liberty of time you get to try things and with each album you experiment a little and you push the boundaries a little and before you know it, with any luck at all, you begin to arrive at things that are uniquely yours and uniquely work for you and you keep those. You get rid of the things that were part of yesterday and you grasp onto things that are a part of the immediate emotion of the moment. Time is a creative contributor. A band that doesn’t get past a couple of records, how would they ever know what they are going to sound like 24 years later? This is our 24th year together.

TAC: There have been so many artists as of late in the past couple years that have come back after a hiatus and that’s what you guys did last year after an 8 year break. Do you think there’s a reason for this and why was it right for you guys?

Robert Reynolds: I think there’s a couple of things that happen.  You see some bands coming together in a purely reunion kind of format; grabbing as many original members as possible and going out and doing reunion-like circuits. Sometimes on a summer festival, you’ll see multiple 80’s rock acts together, that kind of thing. I believe that’s a different purpose of reforming. In other cases, some rock acts take years between albums. U2 could go 4 to 6 years between records and in a way, they’re not accused of breaking up, they’re respected for taking deliberate, necessary time. In a weird way, we never broke up. We also never gave anyone any indication that we would be doing anything together again. Not even ourselves. So ours is a unique scenario and I would just say that time was a healer. And of course the album is called In Time which means things happen in time, things heal in time, and things change in time, so I believe that time is once again the theme.

TAC: How will you make sure that that fire you feel when playing together again doesn’t fizzle out like it did around 2003?

Robert Reynolds: One is with a little bit of age, you begin to realize the things that were causing you stress and we might avoid those a little better today. I believe our intention today is to work hard and to also take as many necessary breaks as possible to preserve this good energy that we’re feeling. If we can do this right, it may not take eight year breaks between records. It might be that we take a year break and that would be the equivalent of eight years once you have learned this great healing process and how it works. I think we’re just a little bit more guarded. We’re prepared to approach this sensitively. We were on a hamster wheel back in the ‘90s. They had us working hard because we were generating a lot of money for a lot of people beyond ourselves. So they want to keep you working; that’s the nature of the beast. We finally put our foot down and it cost us our friendships and our band entirely, but fortunately it did not. We’re deep brother-like friends and we have a band that was capable of coming back together and being fruitful.

TAC: How is the group dynamic now different than it was in the beginning?

Robert Reynolds: Older, wiser, kinder, gentler, softer. More musical. All those other things really do apply, but in a weird way, we know how to project our music and not let outside forces get too heavy and dictating what’s right for us. We are learning now and have learned how to guide ourselves. That’s been a big part of it.

TAC: What about touring? How has that been going this time around?

Robert Reynolds: It’s been fabulous. We learned a lot about touring back in the day and of course there was a lot of money being spent and probably a lot of money being wasted. We’re a little bit more frugal but we don’t spare any expense when it comes to presenting the music so we’re out here on a pretty costly endeavor because we think that the audience will get the best show; nine pieces on stage, two tour buses, full production. It’s a pretty big deal, but we are more vigilant. We watch the bottom line a little bit more closely.

TAC: What can fans expect from your show here at House Of Blues on 4/19?

Robert Reynolds: There’s going to see a band that’s genuinely delighted to be together again. Our interpersonal relationships together on stage are generating really inspired music. There’s no going through the motions aspect of it. We bring an incredible amount of energy to the stage. We sort of save it all up so that the show is first. We’re out here for making shows, not any of the other silly nonsense. We are dedicated to bringing the same energy each night. Not having two great nights, an okay night, an off night and another good night. We want every night to be fantastic. We’re genuinely really excited to be together.

TAC: Do you have any fun memories of playing in Atlantic City in previous years?

Robert Reynolds: I enjoy Atlantic City for a number of reasons. I saw it when I was a young guy and I was really just starting to learn to travel and I was hitting those interesting American cities and I was just fascinated with it. I enjoyed it historically and to be honest, specific memories of Atlantic City are not many. But I believe we can correct that now! If I’m answering it honestly, we didn’t play in it enough and I believe that it’s time to get in there and do it right so that we can start building those now.

TAC: In Time has been getting rave reviews. Favorite tracks off the album?

Robert Reynolds: The power of “Come Unto Me” is just undeniable. It was recorded with such energy and it drove that track. When it appears on the stage live, it’s a fabulous energetic performance piece. I love “Fall Apart”. There’s something kind of whimsical and ‘60s nostalgic, Herb Alpert and Tijuana brass sort of thing. I grew up on Herb Alpert’s music and the Tijuana brass because it was part of of mother’s record collection and I feel like we kind of capture some of that. His was more often instrumental and this is obviously not, but there’s just something about the track that has that spirit and the ballad, “In Another’s Arms”, is just remarkably powerful. It works for me still. When I hear it, I still feel like it’s a beautiful recording. Great song to begin with, so I commend Raul for that, but the recording is really, really special sounding. It’s emotional and I love that.

TAC: What are your new favorites to play on stage?

Robert Reynolds: A couple of those that I mentioned are easily favorites on stage. “Come Unto Me” really does immediately resonate with the audience. I believe that “Fall Apart” has the spirit that I find on the record shows up on stage and that’s always nice. For the most part, the album songs that are coming to the live stage, are really integrating well to our old catalogue. It’s not like we have to sprinkle them in gently because no one wants to hear the new stuff. The new stuff literally holds its own and could be the show in and of itself.

TAC: Do you have any plans as a group after this huge international tour ends?

Robert Reynolds: We already have some new music in us so we’re feeling good about perpetuating this energy. I would say that our plan is to really bring this music around the world in a very deliberate process and that will take some time. Somewhere along the way, we are going to begin the process of looking at a new album. It won’t be immediately because we are so busy, but I think it’s indicative of a band that’s ready to work.

Sounds good. These guys are legit musicians. Check out The Mavericks tomorrow at House Of Blues at Showboat Atlantic City at 9 p.m. Get last minute tix here!

Badfish Bassist Joel Hanks Promises Raging Party At House Of Blues Atlantic City On 4/20

Imagine this. You’re in college and you and your buddies get together and form a band covering songs from the best band ever. You start playing local gigs, and they start selling out. Soon all of them sell out, and before you know it, your cover band is the hottest thing since last week’s issue of Playboy…. or Playgirl…whatever floats your boat. In a nutshell, this is the story of Badfish. And they’ve been out on a crazy number of national tours since their first packed show at Ocean Mist in Matunuck, Rhode Island in 2001.

The guys will be making a stop at  House Of Blues Atlantic City at Showboat this Saturday on their current tour, and we’re totally stoked! We recently caught up with original member and bass player, Joel Hanks. See what he has to say about the show, the phenomenon that is Badfish and more, below!

Badfish

TAC: Did you ever imagine that your love of Sublime and playing local clubs in college would turn into what it has?

Joel Hanks: It would have been pretty hard to imagine that it could have grown to the point that it has.  It was clear though that there was a demand for what we were doing.  We saw it grow pretty fast in our hometown and knew that if it was something that we could do in that one town, that it would be something that we could do in any town.  However, the music business is very difficult and the beginning stages are the hardest.

TAC: What was it about Sublime that made them the “it” band for all of you?

Joel Hanks: I was big into the punk/ska scene, and they were really the one band that molded the ska/punk/reggae/hip hop rhythms together into one unique sound.  Combine that with incredible lyrics and melodies and that is the product that you have.

TAC: At what moment did you realize that this was really taking off?

Joel Hanks: It is hard to pinpoint a particular moment.  There was a lot of hard work and a lot of relationships with many different clubs/agents/promoters that helped pave the way.  One defining moment for sure was the first time that we sold out our home town club, Lupos in Providence, RI (1500 capacity).  The joke was when we sold that club out that we would retire, but it happened well before we ever thought it would have.

TAC: How does it make you feel that you’ve turned into what Sublime is/was to you guys for a younger generation and those that were never able to see them live?

Joel Hanks:  We are honored to do what we do, and the response from fans has been amazing.  They are the reason that we continue to sacrifice any type of a ‘normal’ life and continue to pound the pavement and rack up the miles to bring them the experience.

TAC: We’re sure the past members of Sublime have reached out to you guys before. What have they said to you?

Joel Hanks: We’ve met Bud and he has been amazing to us, and thanked us for doing what we do.

TAC: What are some of the coolest things you have had the opportunity to do because of Badfish?

Joel Hanks: There are so many to name, but just recently we did a couple of very cool and unique things.  On St Paddy’s day, we opened for Snoop Dogg, and in early March we performed on the 311 Cruise.

TAC: Very cool! What can fans expect from your show here on at House Of Blues on 4/20?

Joel Hanks: A raging party.

TAC: Totally all for that. What do you do to get pumped up before a show?

Joel Hanks: Everyone in the band kind of has their own pre show routine.  For the most part, people are very relaxed before we go on.

TAC: Have you ever entertained the idea of making your own music or using this as a platform to dive into other projects as your main focus or will Badfish always take precedence?

Joel Hanks: We have started another project that features our original music.  It is called Scotty Don’t.  For a few years we were doing both sets every night, but we are starting to get away from doing that, as it was a bit taxing on us.

TAC: Is there anything still on your bucket list left to accomplish?

Joel Hanks: It would be definitely be amazing to get to the level of band that Badfish is at with original music.  With Badfish, we want to bring this show worldwide someday soon.

We will be looking forward to both of those things, no doubt. Catch Badfish: A Tribute To Sublime at the House Of Blues at Showboat Atlantic City this Saturday at 8 p.m. Stock up on last minute tix, here!

As If Millionaire Maker Wasn’t Enough, Total Rewards Offers More Awesomeness

Remember when we told you a couple weeks  back that it pays to be a Total Rewards member when you play at Caesars Atlantic City, Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City, Showboat Atlantic City and Bally’s Atlantic City because of the launch of this awesome  brand called Millionaire Maker? Meaning Caesars Entertainment makes more millionaires than any other casino? (In fact, the newest member of the Caesars Entertainment millionaire club was just made on Friday at Flamingo Las Vegas.) And basically, you could be the next member of the club.

If Millionaire Maker by Total Rewards isn’t enough of an incentive of becoming a TR member, there have been some new perks added to this fab loyalty program this month. One being this fancy, schmancy new and improved Total Rewards Visa card.

Total Rewards Visa Card

This pretty puppy can get you 5,000 TR credits when you spend at least $250 outside of a Caesars Entertainment Total Rewards place during your first 90 days as a card holder, and an additional 5,000 credits after you spend a total of $750 during the same time period. You’ll also earn 5X’s reward credits for every $1 spent at TR casinos, 2X’s reward credits for every $1 spent on gas and groceries and one reward credit for every $1 spent everywhere else. And there’s no expiration date on all of these credits, folks. As long as you rack up at least 1 credit every 6 months or less.

And for all you Gold members, this card knocks that status up a notch to Platinum. Oh, yeah.

There is also a new Total Rewards Sky Mall catalogue that is ready to be ordered from until September 30th. Peruse until you drop, here. You can get anything from a personal assistant for three months for 3,000 Reward credits (um..yes, please) to a trip to Australia for 2,500,000 Reward credits (um…yes, please again).

Treat yourself to something nice, will ya?

Total Rewards rocks. Who knew playing at Caesars, Harrah’s Resort, Showboat and/or Bally’s could get you SO much? INCLUDING the chance to be a millionaire! Seems too good to be true! Be sure to take advantage of everything that comes your way from Total Rewards.
