Donna Clopp from Mays Landing, NJ became the third Millionaire Maker One Million Dollar Giveaway winner at Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City this past Saturday night. She seemed to be the most enthusiastic of all the finalists before the festivities began, so we liked her from the start. But we really liked her after we asked her a few questions about her recent winnings. She really knows what it’s like to work hard and really wants to help people. It’s refreshing and honestly brightened up our day! We hope it does the same for you. (Do you like our non-sarcastic attitude today?) Check it out, below!
Donna Clopp: I like Bally’s. The dealers are always friendly. There are certain ones I always like to talk to and a couple of the pit bosses are really nice. They know me and we talk about things. Everyone is really friendly and it’s clean and safe and secure. We’ve enjoyed Bally’s. We’ve really increased our visits in the past year or two.
TAC: What’s your game of choice at Bally’s?
Donna Clopp: Roulette
TAC: You won with #17 and said you’ve never won with that number before. Do you think you’ll be playing it more often from now on?
Donna Clopp: It’s funny, I went back there after we left Harrah’s and said ‘let me try 17’. It still didn’t come out for me! I usually split it because 26 is my number, but I always play on either side of 26 and 17 and 20 are there, so I usually split that 17, 20, but I don’t usually play it direct. But I did when I got back and it still didn’t come up! When I looked at that brick underneath and saw 17, I was like ugh, 17! And then when I saw it on the wheel, it was a different story!
TAC: How did you find out about our One Million Dollar Giveaway campaign and did you have a strategy in regards to earning entries?
Donna Clopp: We get the little post cards all the time. I got the other two and I just didn’t make it down there and this one I said ‘I’m gonna go down there because they are having that million dollar drawing tonight’. I see the bulletin boards on the way on the Expressway and get the mailings. I went down there hoping that I would get my name called for the $500 slot play! I would settle for that!
TAC: Take us through your thought processes: What do you remember feeling or thinking when you found out you were a finalist and then of course found out you just won $1 million?
Donna Clopp: I was at the table and I had just hit on 19, that’s one of my numbers, it’s my dad’s birthday, so they paid off on that and then the 0 just came out and I was waiting for my pay off and then they announced the names and my name was the second called. I didn’t think I heard it right because I heard Donna and I heard Mays Landing. They went through the other three names and then I read the names and said ‘oh my god, that’s me!’. When number 17 came up on the wheel, it was funny because the peg on the wheel was right between 17 and 9. I think if somebody blew on it, it would have went to 9. The guy who had number 9 started screaming. I was looking over at him and thinking, ‘what’s he screaming about? I have 17!’. I was thinking that maybe there were two winners, but it was just me!
TAC: What did you do to celebrate your winnings?
Donna Clopp: We didn’t really do anything yet! We’re pretty common people. My husband and I are still going to work, the boys are going to work. We haven’t really spent anything yet, we just put the money that they had advanced me into the bank. Right now, there are some people at work who I want to help. There’s a dog trainer I want to help who does animal control. He’s always been really good when I call him for different things, so I want to help him and a lady in Northfield who does animal rescue. I want to give her some too. I’m just trying to figure out what I want to do with it and start letting them know. I’m trying to keep it quiet at work because I don’t want people to feel funny around me. A couple of friends have called to congratulate me, but we really haven’t done anything earth shattering yet! My son needs a new car, something more than his little Cavalier and of course I need something more than my Toyota, but we haven’t even really started looking yet.
TAC: We know you are an office manager at an animal hospital in Camden County. What else can you tell us about yourself?
Donna Clopp: My husband and I have been married for 21 years. I’m a pretty private person. I come from a family of eight kids. My son just graduated high school and is entering college. My boys are great. We raised them right, they want to help people. My one son is going to give his car away to one of our friends that doesn’t have a car. We just try to do little things like that. We believe that you’re here for a reason and you have to help people. We like to travel. We never could before, but we’re going to plan a trip! My husband wants to go to London, so we might do that in December when the kids are out of school. We work on the house a lot, we work in the yard, and do a lot of stuff with animals. I’m always picking up animals here and there. My husband is a big sports fan. He does a lot of research on high school sports, that’s his hobby. We’re just basic people that work every day, take care of our house and enjoy the little things.
TAC: How does it feel to know that you won $1 million now that it’s had time to sink in a bit?
Donna Clopp: It hasn’t even sunk in yet because right now it’s just words. I don’t have the money, so it’s just words. But in another month or so, it won’t be just words! I’m thinking about what we are going to do. I haven’t bought anything yet. I just put some money in my boys’ accounts and we’re going to go down to the college so I can pay for that, that kind of stuff. I’m still driving my old Toyota!
TAC: Out of everything you mentioned so far, what will your first purchase be?
Donna Clopp: I’m going to go down to the college today with my son and sign him up and pay for that. That’s part of the first thing. Maybe I’ll start looking for a car for my son and I next week. It’s very overwhelming when you start to think about what you can do and the people you can help. Your mind just starts racing. You just do what you can. Hopefully we will invest it wisely so we can continue to do things. We’ve been doing little things. We were at Caesars last night and went to the buffet. I tipped our waiter really good. It’s the little things like that that I can do for people. We had pizza delivered, I tipped him well. Little things like that might help people a little bit, get them through a rough patch. Everybody’s out there working. It’s hard, it’s very hard out there. Even if it’s not a lot of money and it’s more than what they normally get, it brightens their day and could make a change in them. I appreciate it so much; Bally’s and Caesars and the casinos that do that for people. It’s so nice. A lot of people can be helped.
TAC: What would be your advice to Total Rewards players in preparation for our next One Million Dollar giveaway when the time comes?
Donna Clopp: Go with whatever you can afford and just hope for the best. If it happened to me, it can happen to anyone! Regular people can win. I never would have thought! I would have been happy with the $500 slot play! It’s fun, it’s relaxing, it’s a night out! The dinners and the shows are really nice. Play within your limits and you never know. You could get lucky!
WORD! Couldn’t have said it any better ourselves! The next lucky person brought to you by Millionaire Maker could be YOU on September 1st! Get ready!
