Who was partying at The Pool After Dark at Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City this past weekend? If you were, you were dancing your butts off to the beats of DJ Eddie Edge. And chances are if you got your club on anywhere in the Northeast lately (NYC, Philly, Connecticut) or Vegas on New Years Eve, you’ve most likely witnessed him spinning. Word on the street is many dig Eddie’s fresh approach on the ones and twos and naturally, we wanted to know how he does it. See our interview with him below.
TAC: What started your career at the age of 16?
DJ Eddie Edge: I attended a few school dances as a teen and thought that I could do it. Started out with a set of turntables and got a chance at one of those dances. Been non-stop ever since.
TAC: Your bio states that you are a “true student of the DJ game”. What’s the newest DJ technique you have learned and used to date?
(Eddie is amused and laughing).
DJ Eddie Edge: Being a student to the game is about continuing to learn. Over the years, I spent hours on new blending and scratch techniques, but most recently I have really worked on new ways to get crowds hyped with the mic. I find that getting involved on the mic is something that not only sets you apart, but also can take the party to another level.
TAC: We’ve also heard that you like to give the crowd a unique experience every time you perform. How do you prepare for this?
DJ Eddie Edge: Well I spend a lot of time during the day in the car driving aimlessly pretending to work at my day job. Gives me plenty of time to stay up on music. Just Kidding, but yes, lots of time listening to what’s hot. I also have an extensive record collection that I’ve acquired over the years. I love to find something that I haven’t played in forever and incorporate it into my sets. I think that surprises like that are what people remember.
TAC: What do you like specifically about playing at The Pool After Dark at Harrah’s Resort?
DJ Eddie Edge: The Pool After Dark is one of a kind. Biggest Room in AC and the crowds are so much fun because you can play all different types of music. I am lucky enough to take part in Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays and its different vibes each night. Fridays are great with performances and Saturdays with celeb hosts. Wednesdays are the biggest mid-week party in AC and possibly the east coast. Where else can you spin for 2000+ people on a Wednesday?
TAC: Very true. Finish the sentence: My signature song that I turn to when I need the crowd moving is…
DJ Eddie Edge: Robin S – Show Me Love. Whether it’s the original or the more current Hardwell mix, this song appeals to all ages and demographics of people. The song hits and the crowd go nuts to this even today.
(Dance break, people! Take it back to the ’90s!)
TAC: What are you most proud of so far in your DJ career?
DJ Eddie Edge: DJing has taken me across the country. Was pretty cool to be asked to play in Vegas on New Years Eve last year. To this point I would call that a highlight, but I was asked to play again this year so not sure that qualifies anymore.
TAC: Yes, it qualifies! We’re going with it! Where do you see yourself years down the road?
DJ Eddie Edge: I have a really successful family business that I am lucky enough to be a part of, completely unrelated to the entertainment biz. I am sure that I will be involved with that. I have been with Center Stage Entertainment who has managed me for years so I am sure I will be in a consulting role and rocking old school parties with Frank.
TAC: What would you be doing if you weren’t a DJ?
DJ Eddie Edge: Those that follow me on twitter will notice that I am big on rebuilding cars. I have done that since I was younger and it’s my other passion (aside from music). I would definitely be doing that and my day job.
Keep checking back at The Pool After Dark at Harrah’s for the next time DJ Eddie Edge will be in the house! In the meantime, be sure to check out Aqua Friday tomorrow night with music by DJ Camilo and DJ Milky Mike hosted by Big Ang of Big Ang (duh, of course) and Mob Wives fame, and the D’Jais Fall Reunion party on Saturday!
