Celtic Thunder is your very own Ireland. It’s a fact. That is what the backdrop displayed in big letters earlier this morning at the group’s last dress rehearsal before they kick off their summer series here at Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City tonight at 9 p.m.
Back to our opening statement. Who doesn’t like Irish men, right ladies? If their accents aren’t swoon-worthy enough, just wait until you hear them sing. Their harmonies are totally tight, yet smooth, and fit together perfectly. Plus, they sing every word a woman ever really ever wants to hear in their very own smashes like “She” – “For where she goes I’ve got to be, the reason of my life is she” and those of others like “Home” by Michael Bublé - “I’m just too far from where you are, I wanna come home.” Really? What dude utters these words? Celtic Thunder. (And Michael Bublé, so what).
To add another element of lust, the guys also button down and let lose more on a couple numbers like “Homes Of Donegal”, U2′s “Still Haven’t Found” and “Whiskey In The Jar” where two of the members flank each side of the stage on electric guitar. A little rugged rock n’ roll.
And through all the dreaminess and just enough edge, the Irish the of course, echoes throughout. From the set design (a landscape of layered rocks below a backdrop mimicking sails of a ship) that projects images of the Irish countryside and local town pubs, to the combination of instruments of the phenomenal backing band, and traditional jigs during musical interludes, the tourists in house went from Tri-State area to international in a little under two hours. They do the goose pimple-producing “Danny Boy” and the old, humorous folk song, “Seven Drunken Nights”.
There were plenty laughs and tears in the audience, and this was only rehearsal! Imagine what effects these guys will have on a packed house! In a nutshell, this show will make you want to cry (in a good way) and then have a beer (or multiple…again, in a good way). To feel all these kinds of good, get tickets to this show here. Check out Celtic Thunder at Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City Wednesday through Sunday until July 8th.
