Enjoy a FREE show this Memorial Day weekend from some of our fave alternative rock boys, Alien Ant Farm at the HOB Party Pit. Lead vocalist Dryden Mitchell was cool enough to sit down with us and answer a couple questions. Check it out below. (Female fans: pay EXTRA special attention).
TAC: First off, give us the dirt on your new album to be released this year!
Dryden: This record is gonna be sick! We have never written so many songs for a record. With over 40 songs, It’s gonna be hard to narrow down. Pop, Rock, Mental Metal. It’ll all be in there. I suggest you wear 2 pairs of undies on first listen.
TAC: Um, wow. (Making a mental note). So what new music have you been listening to in the past couple years that has influenced your sound on the new album?
Dryden: Me personally, Howard Stern! I Can’t speak for the rest of the band. Santigold, perhaps. Kid Cudi.
TAC: Howard Stern LOLz. Do you prefer performing live or recording in the studio?
Dryden: There are pros to both. They are so differently amazing. The studio is great because I love the feeling of what the song might become.
TAC: In this Revolver Magazine article you say you will be giving out naked hugs in 2012. Have you given any out yet? What do your fans in Atlantic City have to do to get one?
Dryden: Ha! I will only hug the willing. I’ve hugged the unwilling in the past. I don’t recommend it.
TAC: You guys were involved in a nasty bus crash back in 2002. How has touring been since? Do you have second thoughts every time you stepback onto the bus?
Dryden: For me, breaking a neck is a life changer in so many ways. I get spooked at times, but I love traveling. I’ll never get fully over it, but I manage to enjoy myself on a bus as much as I can.
TAC: Does that experience affect the way you live your life now? Do you often use that experience musically?
Dryden: I think that very horrific experience was a good thing in a weird way. I do pull from it a lot. Even if it’s not specifically about the crash. Lyrically speaking.
TAC: One of the songs you are most famous for is a rendition of Michael Jackson’s Smooth Criminal you released off of your second album in 2001. What made you choose to cover that song then and what does it mean performing it now after his passing?
Dryden: The song just rocks the way he did it. Did we live up to it? I don’t know. I love covers. As for him passing? Sucks. I enjoy doing it even more I think.
TAC: And a completely random, but fun one to close: If you had to switch places with one of your bandmates for one day, who would you be and why?
Dryden: I would be Tye (Zamora), Just so I could hang with his kids for the day. I love his kids, but I don’t know if I’ll ever be ready to take my own on. Who knows, can I knock someone up in Atlantic City? Please?
We think this is a great end for our Memorial Day Preview. Dryden Mitchell is asking for a babymomma. Thanks, Dryden. You were so fun!
