The Continental at The Pier Shops At Caesars Atlantic City is Now Serving Summer Brunch

A new Atlantic City summer brunch option is ready to get in your bellies. The Continental at The Pier Shops at Caesars has extended their weekend summer brunch hours and has introduced a new menu packed with all kinds of tasty variety.

For a sweet meal that is sure to keep you going all day long, try a go at a waffle or pancake option like the Banana Nut Waffles or Hammonton Stack, both pictured below.

Atlantic City Brunch

This toothsome dish is topped with caramelized bananas, candied walnuts and vanilla butter, creating a zing of amazing flavor.

Atlantic City brunch 2

And the Hammonton stack for all you non-Jerseyans, is a fancy name for blueberry pancakes, but these blueberry pancakes are special because they come from the town nicknamed “The Blueberry Capital Of The World”. The greatest blueberries ever are grown only about 28 miles west of Atlantic City and have now been transported here to make your pancakes out of this world.

And if you prefer a little more protein than sugar in your brunch, The Continental can sure egg you on with some different options.

The Huevos Rancheros Soft Tacos is a good way to spice things up a notch. These scrambled eggs are mixed with black beans, chorizo and manchego cheese and are served alongside taco shells for you to load up to your liking.

Atlantic City brunch 3

And for a healthier option, indulge (by taste, not calories) in the Egg White Frittata. This creation is sprinkled with pita crumbles and Parmesan over spinach and tomato.

The menu also features popular lunch selections from the regular menu and an array of special cocktails. Enjoy The Continental summer brunch on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Celtic Thunder Begin Run At Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City Tonight

Celtic Thunder is your very own Ireland. It’s a fact. That is what the backdrop displayed in big letters earlier this morning at the group’s last dress rehearsal before they kick off their summer series here at Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City tonight at 9 p.m.

Back to our opening statement. Who doesn’t like Irish men, right ladies? If their accents aren’t swoon-worthy enough, just wait until you hear them sing. Their harmonies are totally tight, yet smooth, and fit together perfectly. Plus, they sing every word a woman ever really ever wants to hear in their very own smashes like “She” – “For where she goes I’ve got to be, the reason of my life is she” and those of others like “Home” by Michael Bublé - “I’m just too far from where you are, I wanna come home.” Really? What dude utters these words? Celtic Thunder. (And Michael Bublé, so what).

Celtic Thunder

Singing...sweetly.

To add another element of lust, the guys also button down and let lose more on a couple numbers like “Homes Of Donegal”, U2′s “Still Haven’t Found” and “Whiskey In The Jar” where two of the members flank each side of the stage on electric guitar. A little rugged rock n’ roll.

Celtic Thunder

A little more rebellious here.

And through all the dreaminess and just enough edge, the Irish the of course, echoes throughout. From the set design (a landscape of layered rocks below a backdrop mimicking sails of a ship) that projects images of the Irish countryside and local town pubs, to the combination of instruments of the phenomenal backing band, and traditional jigs during musical interludes, the tourists in house went from Tri-State area to international in a little under two hours. They do the goose pimple-producing “Danny Boy” and the old, humorous folk song, “Seven Drunken Nights”.

Celtic Thunder

This just makes us want to scream RIVERDANCE!

Celtic Thunder

SURPRISE! We forgot to mention...KILTS! Can't get anymore Irish than that.

There were plenty laughs and tears in the audience, and this was only rehearsal! Imagine what effects these guys will have on a packed house! In a nutshell, this show will make you want to cry (in a good way) and then have a beer (or multiple…again, in a good way). To feel all these kinds of good, get tickets to this show here. Check out Celtic Thunder at Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City Wednesday through Sunday until July 8th.

Did You Know? Today’s Atlantic City Fun Fact

The world’s largest (and loudest) pipe organ is housed in Atlantic City’s very own Boardwalk Hall.

It was constructed between the years of 1929 and 1932 by the Midmer-Losh Organ Company and has 449 different kinds of pipes, 230 flues, 84 reeds, and is able to make 314 different sounds (stops for all you PC music people).  One of the sounds (the 100-inch Grand Ophicleide), is even “six times louder than the loudest locomotive whistle”.  That’s a good set of lungs, huh?

World's Largest Organ

You can see this beauty via monthly tours at the venue. The next tour at Boardwalk Hall will take place on Tuesday, July 3rd at 10 a.m. For more information about this beloved keyboard instrument, click here.

Aarón Sanchez’ Weekend Festivities in Atlantic City (Plus An Interview With This Blog!)

Celebrity chef Aarón Sanchez of Food Network and head chef of our very own Crossroads at House Of Blues restaurant at Showboat Atlantic City, stopped by on Friday to hang with some cool peeps and introduce some Atlantic City media members to some of his favorite dishes (meatball sliders, chicken jambalaya and chile braised short ribs with corn pudding to name a few, pictured below). Check out The Wandering Eater for a further in-depth review on the eats.

Chef Aarón broke to fame after he was selected as a co-host on Food Network’s Melting Pot where he introduced the world to his tasteful twits on classic Latino cuisine. Since then, Food Network has scooped him up for a slew of shows including Chopped and Chopped All Stars, Chefs vs. City and Iron Chef. He is also the owner and executive chef of the fabulous Mexican eateries Centrico in New York City and Mestizo in Kansas City, KS. The delicious endeavors obviously don’t stop there, though. Aarón is the culinary mastermind behind New York City’s Tacombi restaurant and various Crossroads at House Of Blues joints throughout the country including ours right here in AC and has even penned a few books Simple Food,  Big Flavor and La Comida Del Barrio.

Aaron Sanchez

He may also need to add "model" to the list after this money shot.

The list goes on and on and on with this guy. Seriously. He’s also extremely funny, charming and able to bust out a good tune. We know this because he sat down and chatted with us (and serenaded us in Spanish, swoon) amidst a big spread of food at Showboat’s The Foundation Room right before the night’s festivities took action.

Read our amazing conversation below.

TAC: Crossroads is a restaurant where music and art intersect. What kind of a music fan are you and how can you use that to create new dishes?

Aarón Sanchez:  That’s a very good question. [Side note: Thank you, Aarón. Note how we didn't remove this compliment in the editing process.] For me I would add two more to that. I think Crossroads would be art, music, food and spirituality. I think that’s a really big underlying thing with House Of  Blues. I’m a Buddhist, I was married in a Buddhist ceremony and my wife’s a musician, she’s a singer/songwriter, and her father/my father-in-law is a jazz musician who played with Max Roach and all these amazing people, so music has been an absolute, integral part of my life. I grew up with my family, all my aunts playing mariachi music and singing in the ranch in Mexico, and playing guitars and  instruments. So it’s extremely important because to be a good artist, you have to be influenced by other facets of art. That’s why if you are a good artist, you can usually play an instrument or if you’re a musician, you can write,  or you can paint. With my other facets, I write poetry. That’s one of the things I love to do. I think that the food is extremely important, but listening to my wife’s music for instance, it reminds me to remember to cook with love, cook with compassion, cook with restraint, all the things that make really great, harmonious dishes.

TAC:  What makes Crossroads a great Atlantic City dining option?

Aarón Sanchez: House Of Blues and Crossroads pose a real interesting opportunity because you have to have a menu that will appeal to very wide, diverse audiences. You got kids that are coming in here with family to eat and they want burgers and flatbreads on the kids menu, then you have young adults coming to see a show who want something quick that’s not fattening so they can look good, you know what I mean? It runs the gamut. We wanted to create a menu that hits on what my interpretation of what American classics are. We have the signature burgers, we have the flatbreads, we have sliders, great wings, all those things that allowed me the opportunity to create a menu that was everything I wanted to eat.

TAC: Crossroads boasts a “Build Your Own Burger” station. What would be on your burger?

Aarón Sanchez:  I would put homemade pickled onions, chipotle ketchup, an herb mayonnaise that we make in house, a mango mustard, different things that I think would spice up your burger and get away a little bit from the more traditional stuff which you can get anywhere.

TAC:  How do you balance being involved in so many different kitchens all over the country?

Aarón Sanchez: I create a great support system. Before I ever did anything with the House Of Blues, I established a core group of corporate chefs, people that I chose and handpicked that were able to spend enough time with me to understand my vision. And they’re not cooking with me necessarily, we’re going out to eat, we’re going to markets, we’re reading books, I’m showing them what I like so they can understand what’s in here (head) and what’s in here (heart) so they know which avenue not to take and which one to take. That’s how I ensure the quality. I keep constant tabs, have an army of assistants, have a business manager, I have a lot of people that are on my team that make sure everything is up to par.

TAC:  You obviously spend some time in Atlantic City every now and then. What do you like to do when you’re here?

Aarón Sanchez:  I was here in 2003, so I have a lot of memories of coming down here and spending a lot of time here. I was here for three months straight at one point. I like to go to the White House, I have my hoagies there. I go down to Cape May if I get a break. I like to go to some of the more Mom and Pop Italian spots here in town, the red sauce places, you can’t beat them. You walk into some of these joints and you’ve never seen so much cleavage and open-toe shoes in your life and those are just the guys! Those are just dudes, love it! Welcome to Atlantic City! And sweat suits! Matching sweat suits!

TAC: Ha!You also still do tons of TV appearances. What’s a typical day like for you?

Aarón Sanchez:  When you’re a man like me, you have to schedule everything. I have to schedule my family time. Literally my calendar says “don’t book anything ‘cause Aaron has to go to his daughter’s blah blah blah” or I have to go to my house in Long Island. So I have to schedule that and what I do with the restaurants is the same thing. I look at the calendar, I have all my managers call me, and say Aaron, we have a big party coming up here, it would be a good idea if you were here, they’re spending a lot of money they want to see you, boom, so that gets in the calendar. And then with the television, that gets scheduled maybe four to three months out, so that I know for about two-and-a-half weeks I’m going to be in and out of the studio where I book just that time. And then I’ll book a whole week at the restaurant. If you were to ask me tomorrow to do something, I would have to tell you March. The reason it is like that is because I have so many existing relationships with my marketing partners, with Bud Light, Sierra Mist, TJ Maxx, all these people that I work with, that I owe them time. You have to pay the piper!

TAC:  What’s the difference between cooking in front of the camera and not in front of the camera?

Aarón Sanchez:  I think the idea to be successful cooking on camera is to act like you’re cooking in a kitchen. You can’t cater to a camera when it comes to cooking per se. When you’re doing other stuff, you have to. You have to engage your viewer, but cooking on camera is important because you have to make mistakes. When a salt and pepper shaker falls down on camera, I love that. That happens at home! When my pot gets too hot, I love that. Here I am a professional, and that shit happens to me. I want people to understand that we’re on the same level. That’s what makes it cool.

TAC:  You are also a guest on Chopped and Chopped All Stars on Food Network. What do you look for in judging dishes?

Aarón Sanchez:  I look for the basics to be honest. Well seasoned, cooked properly, a balance of acidity, that it’s not one dimensional. I can tell right away looking at a dish if someone has an understanding of how to put food together. The basics need to be done well. That’s why it was important for me to cook on Chopped and Chopped: All Stars because I needed to be able to have a better perspective how to judge. I think it’s very uncool when you have people that judge you, like American Idol, that have never been in the music industry. Imagine if these people were never in the business, you wouldn’t trust their opinion. Same thing with me. I have twenty years in the industry, but I also wanted them to know that I could subject myself to that. That’s important. You’ve got to have humility in life.

TAC:  Can we talk about your tattoos? Which one means the most to you and why?

Aarón Sanchez: I have my sons name, that means a lot to me. I have my wife’s name Ife, which they tell you never to do, never put your wife’s name on you, I have that. I have a big piece from my grandmother here that says Escuela Vieja, old school in Spanish. So for me, I live my life in extremes and the tattoos are not for anybody else, they’re for me. So when people get really sort of weird about tattoos, you shouldn’t, because they’re not bothering you, you’re the one who is being bothered by them. They’re for me. They’re on my body. Again, I love art and pushing it to the max. I want people to have to feel a little uncomfortable at times. Then that means they are gonna have to push themselves to ask tough questions. I like that. People freak out when they see me and they’re like “ohhh, that’s the guy?” Am I supposed to wear a suit? Am I supposed to be a tight ass? What’s the role?

TAC: Truth! And now, a totally fun, typical food question. What is your favorite meal of all time?

Aarón Sanchez: I think my grandmother’s chorizo tacos or her beans that she used to make. My grandmother was mad old school. She would make the chorizo recipe and she would know exactly how much to weigh out for two eggs. She would roll these little parcels, they looked like hash or wheat or something, and then she would wrap them up and freeze them in a Coca Cola box. And then she would defrost them and she knew that that was the perfect amount for two eggs. I remember going to her house and it always being just immaculate. Always food on the stove. A lot of people have that relationship with their grandmothers. Grandmothers are awesome.

And we think that is an awesome way to end this interview. Grandmas ARE awesome Aarón, and so are you. Thank you for being so cool!

Happy 1st Birthday to Caesars Entertainment Atlantic City BR Guest Restaurants!

There are Birthdays in the house at Harrah’s Resort and Caesars Atlantic City! Our BR Guest restaurants (Bill’s Bar & Burger, Dos Caminos, Sammy D’s and Atlantic Grill) are celebrating their very FIRST Birthday with us this month and instead of giving them a present, they are giving one to you instead! We like these kinds of Birthdays.

You have to work for it though (not too hard, okay, so don’t stop reading). All you have to do is simply utter the phrase “Happy Birthday BRG” to your server and you get a free drink! Not too shabby, eh? (We know this is an Atlantic City blog, but the Canadian creeps up on us every now and then, sorry).

Anyway, start the drumroll please.

Saying Happy Birthday BRG to your server at Bill’s Bar & Burger will score you a $3 Cold Ass beer.

Happy Summer from Caesars Entertainment Atlantic City!

Happy Summer!

Nothing screams summer, especially summer at the Jersey shore, like a good ol’ fluffy heap of cotton candy.

Cotton Candy

Adding this cotton candy to a delicious adult beverage makes this special summer treat even that much sweeter.

The cotton candy kiss (pictured below) is a refreshing blend of Absolut Vanilla, St. Germain Liqueur, and pineapple and cranberry juices, and you can enjoy this drink Wednesday through Sundays at Sammy D’s at Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City.

Atlantic City Nightlife

Feel free to sprinkle the cotton candy atop the cocktail at your leisure, or use it to bribe the kids as you down your “big kid juice”. What better way to get through the longest day of the year and simultaneously celebrate summer?

Bottoms up for summer solstice!

The First Lady Returns Home: An Interview With Faith Evans

Jersey girl and seasoned songstress Faith Evans is headed home this weekend. That’s right, she is slated to do a one-time stint here at Showboat AC‘s House Of Blues along with her buddies of 112, all back together again. “Peaches & Cream,” anyone?

Faith Evans

Always, Faith.

We’re hoping we may even get a little “I’ll Be Missing You” action out of the night. The stars definitely seem to be aligned properly. Tell us you don’t know this song word for word.

We caught up with The First Lady upon her arrival back to the dirty Jerze. See what cool projects she has coming up on the tube and more, below.

TAC: We’ve missed you! What have you been up to since the release of your last album in 2010?

Faith Evans: I’ve been recording and I’m in Atlanta working on a reality show that’s actually going to air in August on TV One called R&B Divas. I’ve been recording since I’ve been here as well, but mainly working on the show and a couple other TV projects.

TAC: Can you tell us a little more about R&B Divas?

Faith Evans: It is a project that is co-produced by myself and my friend Nicci Gilbert who was the lead singer of the group Brownstone. The other cast members are Keke Wyatt, Syleena Johnson and Monifah; R&B Divas.

TAC: You just celebrated your birthday on June 10th. Happy Birthday! What did you do for the big day?

Faith Evans: I was actually traveling back to Atlanta from home in LA. It was my son’s birthday and I didn’t get to spend the day with him since we share the same birthday, but I got here, and my friends had planned a little surprise get together for me, so it was really cute. I was pleasantly surprised.

TAC: We are so excited to have you at HOB on June 23rdfor your one-time event. What are some of your best memories of growing up in Jersey?

Faith Evans: Oh wow, so many. It’s funny because every time I come back home, I end up staying longer than I was supposed to. I just never have enough time to see all my friends and family. I think one of my fondest memories now that amazes me is how far we used to ride our bicycles back in the day when we were between the ages of 10 and 13. We would ride from North of Roselle down the bus route. I wouldn’t even be able to do that now. It was different all the video games and those things, we had them, but we would go outside and play and be back before the street lights came on.

TAC: What can fans expect from your show on June 23rd at House Of Blues?

Faith Evans:  I always have a good time on stage and being back home, the crowd is always really receptive. My DJ and my background singers, we’re going to have a good time. I’m going to do a little bit of old stuff and a little bit of new. I have a whole lot of records. Obviously I’m not doing a 2-hour concert, so I won’t be able to do all of my songs, but I carefully selected the right ones and I think everyone will be happy.

TAC: Do you miss being on tour?

Faith Evans: No, I really don’t. It’s been killing me being here doing this show when my family is in LA. Just because I’ve got to keep the household running with the bills and make sure the mail is looked through. I miss the regular schedule of it all, being able to work out in the morning and knowing what I got to do every day, but as far as being away from my family, that’s always the downside of any potential work. A lot of work requires us to be away from home, so I take it in spurts. You probably wonder why I’m not always out on the scene, but I got to balance it out.

TAC: 112 is also performing. You obviously know these guys very well as “I’ll Be Missing You” was your biggest hit song. Tell us a memory of collaborating with them

Faith Evans: I actually just recently worked with a few of them on their solo projects over the last few years. We never lost touch. We had to do a stint where I sort of left my bags of shoes in their houses when I was living in hotel from hotel back in the day, so we have a bond.

TAC: Who is someone you would like to collaborate with in the future and why?

Faith Evans: Wow, there are so many people. I try to welcome the opportunities to work with people; usually it’s always about the timing of it. Unless something is 100% against my morals or something, there are not many people that I wouldn’t try to work with if they respect my work to want to do it as long as the timing is right with what I got going on. There are so many people though. I wouldn’t even want to slight anybody by just naming one or two.

TAC: What is some of your favorite music on the radio right now?

Faith Evans: To be honest that changes too. I like a lot of different stuff. My kids are so into music both old and new and every other week is something new. I do respect and certainly appreciate both new and old music, but I still got my old stuff in rotation. My Marvin Gayes to The Mamas & the Papas, to Anita Baker, to Jill Scott, to jazz music. I listen to music all the time.

TAC: What’s next for you?

Faith Evans: I have a couple of movie scripts that I’m reading right now. I actually have a couple of movie projects I’m trying to pitch and co-EP. And aside from that, just getting back into the studio, finishing up my next album and continuing to take care of my kids. I would also like to put some time into working on my next book. I think I’m going to take a couple of months to continue working on that as well once some of these other things are in place.

Faith Evans and 112 take the stage at House Of Blues at 8 p.m. on Saturday. It’s seriously a once in a lifetime Atlantic City show, so strap in the honey and BFFs, and head on down to AC. Click here for tickets.
