Secrets of The House Of Blues Atlantic City

We make celebs here at Caesars Entertainment Atlantic City. Uh huh. It’s true. Our Regional Technical Manager of Entertainment, Jim Esher, was featured as the subject of this article in the Press Of Atlantic City back in March. (To get your 15 minutes, fill out a job application here, we’re still waiting for ours, btw. Joking. Jim deserves it.)

We thought that it was only fair that we get to chat with Jim too, as we ARE the official blog of Caesars Entertainment Atlantic City.

Jim has seen EVERYTHING at Showboat Atlantic City’s House Of Blues. That little stunt you tried to pull that day at Big Sean? Yeah, he saw it. Watch yourselves.

Just kidding. Kinda. You can only imagine some of the monkey business Jim sees and hears. Monkey business even too inappropriate to post in this blog and, well…we’re a BLOG for crying out loud. We dug deep though, we really did. Jim helped us uncover these House Of Blues Atlantic City secrets:

House Of Blues Music Hall

HOB Secret #1

Crazy-fan-barricade-jumping madness was SO CLOSE to happening recently at the Chevelle show.

Jim Esher Explains: “We had set up an enclosed  party pit for show. The band stated that they were going to tell their fans to jump the barricades to get to the front of the stage if we left it up. In an effort to ensure guest safety we made an eleventh hour decision to remove this.”

Always looking out for YOU. Don’t mess.

HOB Secret # 2

Not to be rude, but you won’t fit backstage….so don’t try it.

JE Explains: “Although the HOB Music Hall has the largest audience capacity of all of our theaters in town, it has the least amount of dressing rooms and the least amount of backstage space. This makes it very challenging to move all the different bands equipment, dressing space, and food & beverage around.”

Nowhere to run, we tell ya. Nowhere to run.

HOB Secret #3

Snoop Dogg spent many long hours totally gaming it up here. (Yes, in HOB, not even the casino).

Our Celeb Explains:  “If you give Snoop Dogg an Xbox it’s very hard to get him out of his dressing room.  He’s a Madden Football Junkie and he won’t come out till the game’s over.”

Hereeeee, doggie dogg. *Holds a gold –plated Xbox over our head*

HOB Secret #4

Some acts request more than food and drink to satisfy them.

JE Takes It Away: “Occasionally we’ll see requests for Condoms, Tube Socks, T Shirts, or some other clothing or medical ointment.  You just have to laugh and cross those out.”

*Blinks*. Seriously, let’s play a game. Which HOB acts do you think were guilty of this?  Sex, drugs & rock n’ roll kids.

That was fun though, right? We thought so.

Did You Know? Today’s Atlantic City Fun Fact

And your first Atlantic City fun fact at that.

In the game of golf, the term “birdie” (to score a hole under par) was coined right here at the Atlantic City Country Club. It happened at the twelfth fairway too.  (A twofer for you!). In 1903.

Atlantic City Country Club birdie

1903, see?

We are totes serious.

One of Abner Smith’s golf buddies exclaimed that he made a “bird of a shot” when his ball landed right next to the hole.

“Bird of a shot” soon became “birdie”, a term that became trendy at the ACCC. Visiting members then took the word to their own clubs and it spread (like wildfire, obviously).

So stick that one in your back pockets in case you need it for your next game of quizzo….or something.

Pauly D Claims New Home At Harrah’s Pool After Dark

Peace out Seaside Heights, Pauly D has a new home at the Jersey Shore. That’s right, this Italian Stallion has recently claimed residency at Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City’s  The Pool After Dark.

Pauly D Residency

Hottest. Ticket. In. Town.

If your PJSD (Post Jersey Shore Depression, duh) has been off the chain since the season 5 finale, and The Pauly D Project leaves you wanting more, let Pauly fill your guidolicious (blogs are allowed to make up words) love tank monthly at Harrah’s.

If this month’s gig is any indication, Pool goers can expect a hot, sweaty night of fist pumping goodness. Hopefully this will not cause any self tanners to run. Apply with caution.

The next Pauly D bash is set to take place on Saturday, July 7th.

Plus, you never know who else may show up. It’s summer at the Jersey Shore.

Qua Baths & Spa Does It Like The Romans

What’s old is new again. Usually. Except for wearing your overalls backwards. That never did come back into style, did it?

Anyway, forget the early ’90s. We are going back to ancient Roman times. What rituals could possibly be cool (warm, or hot in this case as well) enough to resurface, you ask? Baths. Roman baths.

Qua Baths & Spa at Caesars Atlantic City is the only spa in AC that features three pools of varying temps to tap into ”social spa-ing”, a new concept in the spa world that uses water to relieve every day stress.

The largest bath, the tepidarium, is filled with warm water that rejuvinates natural components of the skin.

Qua Roman Baths

Don't get all wrinkly in there.

If you need to relax (or you are just old), the Caldarium (hot bath), is the one for you. It soothes tired muscles and joints.

And if you need a jump start, take a dive (but not really) into the Frigidarium. Bathing in cold water invigorates the body and restores energy.

You are welcome to use these baths with the purchase of any spa treatment. Good deal. We like the Romans. (Baths AND toga parties).

Harrah’s Resort Decorates for Total Rewards

If you don’t read the news or this blog (awkward silence), the sandcastle decoration at Harrah’s Resort is a good way to keep up on the happenings of Atlantic City.

Total Rewards Sandcastle

It's a bird, it's a plane it's a...sandcastle.

Currently, this mound of sand is paying homage to the sexy new look of the Caesars Entertainment Total Rewards collateral. AKA, your loyalty player’s cards among other things you probably don’t care as much about.

Since this a blog and not a brochure, click here to find out more about the best customer loyalty program in the city.

Caesars Entertainment In Preparation For Annual Atlantic City Food And Wine Festival

It’s baaaack. Mark your calendars, fat kids and foodies. The Atlantic City Food And Wine Festival will be held July 26th through July 29th .

Atlantic City Food And Wine Festival

Big names in the house this year include Robert Irvine, Andrew Zimmern, Anne Burrell, Buddy Valestro (noms, cake sounds good right about now),  Luke Palladino, Tyler Florence, Robert Irvine and Aaron Sanchez

Out of the twenty events listed, our favorites are New Jersey Says “Drink My Beer”, The Blind Leading The Blind: The Ultimate Mystery Wine Tasting, Grapes And Regions You Probably Don’t Know About But Should, and Blushing Beyond White Zinfandel based solely on name. Are all of these events purely alcoholic? Oops. Don’t forget about Define “Cheese-Steak” hosted by a surprise guest too. Cheesesteaks are good. Especially after alcohol.

Something truly cool and charitable: This year’s festival will also benefit the Community Food Bank of New Jersey.

Tickets are on sale NOW. Get them here. And make sure to start fasting so you have enough room in that belly for all of this deliciousness come July.

We condone gorging at Atlantic City Food And Wine.

Give A Dog A Bone At Showboat Atlantic City’s PetStay Program

People love their dogs. Some peeps look like their pups too. Whether you look like your dog or not, you’ll probably be psyched to know that you can bring them along when you stay in AC thanks to Showboat Atlantic City’s PetStay program.

This is sure to make for some happy tail wagging instead of the usual “Really? You’re leaving me? You may find your pillow destroyed when you get home” boo boo face.

After a stay at Showboat’s PetStay, your dog will look as happy and refreshed as Chloe here.

Chloe

Work it, girl.

Chloe is the lucky winner of our America’s Best Dog Model Competition held back in March. And she had to work for this esteemed title. Chloe was crowned the winner after steamrolling past her competition in an obstacle course, winning the judges over with her many talents and wearing the best costume to showcase her shining personality.

The new face of our PetStay program and her owner, Michelle Devine, were kind enough to answer a couple questions for us about the competition and their PetStay experience.

TAC: What made you decide to enter Chloe in our America’s Next Dog Model Competition?

Michelle Devine: My sister heard about the competition through Harrah’s Facebook page and told me about it a few months after we got Chloe.  As a new puppy owner and a huge Atlantic City fan, I thought it would be fun to not only show off our adorable puppy, but to have a chance to win some great prizes.  Not to mention being a part of history in the making: a chance for Chloe to be the spokes-dog for the first and only pet-friendly hotel and casino in Atlantic City, NJ.

TAC: How did Chloe learn her winning talent tricks?

Michelle Devine: My boyfriend and I taught Chloe her winning talent tricks: sit, paw, kisses, and dance. I remember the first time she gave “paw” like it was yesterday.  I had been trying for weeks to teach Chloe to give her paw for a treat. One morning, while I was packing my lunch for work I decided to give it one more try and SHE DID IT! I was such a proud mama! I took a video (that I still have and watch to this day), and sent it to all our family and friends. “Kisses” was pretty easy to teach her since she loves her Mommy and Daddy SO much! And Chloe really is a natural dancer; whenever she wanted a treat, she used to jump up on her hind legs and beg.  We decided to put a command to it and call it “dance”.

TAC: What are your and Chloe’s favorite part of your grand prize winnings and why?

Michelle Devine: We truly feel blessed to have won such amazing prizes including: five overnight stays at a Pet Stay room at Showboat, a food and beverage credit, tickets to a House of Blues AC concert, a subscription to Fido Friendly Magazine, and a gem-encrusted collar from Around the Collar.  Our favorite part of the grand prize winnings is the ability to take a family vacation with our puppy, Chloe. With only a few weeks of vacation time each year, it’s important to be able to take a trip and share the memories with our entire family. This time together is priceless and we are truly thankful for the chance to do this.

TAC: What do you think it is about Chloe that captures the spirit of Showboat Atlantic City?

Michelle Devine: A lot of people who meet Chloe describe her as spunky and energetic. I think that her sociable and likeable personality represents Showboat AC very well!

TAC: We think so too. What do you (and Chloe) like about our PetStay program?

Michelle Devine: We absolutely love the fact that we can take a vacation together as a family to a great location, Atlantic City, and stay at a fabulous hotel, Showboat!  The staff and patrons at the casino are very friendly and welcoming to Chloe and other dogs.  Chloe absolutely adores all the attention and love. I remember the first time that we took her out for a walk and on our way back into the hotel, one of the staff members gave her a biscuit; it not only made Chloe happy, but it made me smile to know that she really is welcome!

It’s true. Showboat AC boasts a special area just for daily walks and potty time (for the dogs).

PetStay Lawn

Grassy.

You can even leave the pooper scooper at home.

PetStay Poopy Pouch

Poopy Pouches. We love.

Each pet stay room is equipped with even more biodegradable bags and oh yeah, a placemat, treats, and food and water bowls. (Again, for the dogs).

PetStay Amenities

Also take note, those biscuits are gourmet.

You now have officially run out of excuses to not visit AC. No pet sitter needed. Pack up your bags, and your canine, and enjoy a nice getaway (for….both).

Something You Probably Didn’t Know About Caesars Atlantic City

Caesars Atlantic City Gaming

There is more than 140,755 square feet of casino gaming space at Caesars Atlantic City. This includes 32 poker tables, 146 table games and more than 2,518 machines.

Games, games, games, games, games! Bonus points if you know the song with the chorus consisting of these lyrics. (Yes, games, games, games, games, games.)

Your First Atlantic City Gambling Myth

Atlantic City Slots

Ya’ll know you do it. Sorry, scratch that. This is an Atlantic City blog. You’se guys know you do it. You’se stand there for a moment and study the slot machines when you’se first enter the casino floor. (Can we stop yet? Our spell check is very angry). You devise some self-proclaimed genius plan in your head about which machine you should play. The one on the right doesn’t look like it’s had any action in awhile. Aunt Mabel over there just got a little cash next to the empty one on the left, so forget it, that one isn’t going to give me anything.

Let us fill you in a little secret. You don’t need to do that. Any of that. Slot machines aren’t that smart. They don’t have brains. They’re pretty dumb. Each spin is completely random. It doesn’t remember when it hit last or what the previous spin was like. The odds are always the same and the machines do not run on a script. It’s just like…um, Charlie Sheen. You never know what you’re gonna get. Get it? Got it? Good.

Pull that lever!

The Viking Cooking School Can Teach You How To Make Banana Leaf-Wrapped Snapper

There’s certainly something for everyone here in Atlantic City, and for those of you who like a good meal (seriously, who doesn’t?), in addition to mouth-watering restaurants, Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City is the only place that offers a more hands on approach.

We were lucky enough to take a class at The Viking Cooking School (Yes, a blog at a cooking class…maybe that’s why the other students were looking at us funny. Do you think we could make the Guiness Book Of World Records for that?) and we want to share part of our delicous experience with you, our loyal readers. And there are probably so many of you considering this blog just launched. Moving on.

We liked this class from the start because we got a snack.

Viking Cooking School Snack

Nom noms.

And a cocktail of lemony goodness, Sierra Mist and rum.

Viking Cooking Class Cocktail

Jealous?

As part of the Thai Taste Explosions class, we learned how to make Banana-Leaf Wrapped Snapper (among lots of other things).

We started by making the foundation of the sauce which included garlic, cilantro, green onion and kaffir lime leaves. Grinding these ingredients together in a food processor makes a nice paste.

Viking Cooking School Banana Leaf-Wrapped Red Snapper Paste

An array of green goodness.

In a separate container (or measuring cup) you mix coconut milk, tamarind and yogurt together.

White stuff.

Then you add some curry and the paste in a pan with some fish oil. Wait until the aroma is released and add the rest of the sauce or as we liked to call it, the white stuff. After mixing, reduce to medium heat.

Voila!

Now it’s time for the red snapper.

Viking Cooking School Red Snapper

Raw fish. Yum.

Pat those babies down with a bit of salt and pepper.

Salt and peppered red snapper

A little (or a lot) s&p never hurt nobody.

Then add a little lemon juice.

When life hands you lemons, make banana leaf-wrapped snapper.

And wrap! Shiny side down.

Banana Leaf-Wrapped Snapper

It's like a body wrap...but for fish.

Then it’s time to bake in the oven. This is not supposed to be sushi. Twenty minutos at 400 degrees.

To see the final product topped with the yummy curry sauce, you should probably take the class at The Viking Cooking School yourself. We were too busy eating to show you. Sorry. Trust us when we say it was a party in our mouth. If a blog can do it, you can.

Check out the class schedule here and sign up for one!
